We envision a resilient world dependent on the thoughtful cultivation of plants

Gardening in LA

Articles: Gardening in LA

image001There’s nothing retiring about Yvonne Savio; on July 1, 2015 she “graduates.” After 21 years as Master Gardener Coordinator in Los Angeles County this dedicated garden educator is launching a new website www.GardeningInLA.net where you’ll find seasonal highlights from her Pasadena garden and a compilation of gardening events throughout Los Angeles County and Southern California. Resources on the site include research-based weblinks, monthly garden tips, and a weekly blog newsletter. Members of the Southern California gardening public are encouraged to submit events, volunteer opportunities, and job opportunities to the growing network.

In addition to cultivating Gardening in LA Yvonne will continue offering enthusiastic presentations to gardening groups throughout Southern California and beyond, presenting and demonstrating gardening techniques on various media outlets (KCET, HGTV, YouTube), and pursuing a freelance career as an author/photographer—she already has more than 1,000 articles and a catalog of some 10,000 photos—and garden coaching. Email Yvonne at GardeningInLA@gmail.com.

Yvonne will share experiences from her 21-year career developing the University of California Cooperative Extension Los Angeles Master Gardener program. During that time she taught and inspired 1,183 Master Gardeners who then helped more than 1.3 million county residents to garden more sustainably, specifically encouraging limited-resource and under-represented gardeners to grow more of their own food.
