An Age of Gardeners
Mrs. Bancroft & Her Horticultural Contemporaries
July 18-19, 2008
In honor of Ruth Bancroft’s 100th Birthday, we plan to make a study of the Bay Area’s rich horticultural heritage, highlighting its most prolific gardeners, including Ruth Bancroft, Ed Carman, Lester Hawkins & Marshall Olbrich, Harland Hand, Gerda Isenberg, Victor Reiter, and Wayne Roderick. If you garden for yourself and others, this will be two days of context and celebration. On stage to reminisce and paint the horticultural legacy of these most revered gardeners is a remarkable cast of horticulturists, garden writers, and designers, including Joe Eck and Wayne Winterrowd, Chris Rosmini, Roger Warner, Robert Stansel, Ted Kipping, Warren Roberts, Roger Raiche, Martin Grantham, Brian Kemble, Dick Turner, Bart O’Brien, Betsy Clebsch, Suzanne Schettler, Lou Hand-Schley, Nancy Carman Schramm, and Dick Dunmire.
A Garden Study Tour following Saturday's talks will visit the Regional Parks Botanic Garden and two remarkable urban gardens designed by Harland Hand.
