Beautiful Stonework for the Sustainable Garden
Saturday September 25th at 11:15 am
Ayers Hall, L.A. County Arboretum & Botanic Garden
As gardeners become more and more aware of our impact on the
Earth's natural systems, we are confronted with the fact that we
have paved so much of our very own spaces. Impermeable
surfaces that drain into storm water systems waste a valuable and
sacred resource that could otherwise be an asset to the health of
our soils, flora, and fauna. In this lecture Jeffrey will show elegant
historical examples of gardens and his own projects that maintain
a healthy relationship with nature while creating a magical stage
for our interaction with the natural world.
Speaker
Jeffery Bale
A gardener since childhood in Eugene, Oregon, at an early age Jeffrey knew
he wanted to work with plants and stone. He has a degree in Landscape
Architecture from the University of Oregon, and after a trip to Spain and
Portugal, where he was introduced to pebble mosaic, he developed a
technique for constructing them. "It is a wonderful medium with unlimited
expression, and I have become known for the many beautiful works
adventurous clients have commissioned over the years." Addicted to travel,
Jeffrey has spent winters exploring Southeast Asia, India and Central Asia,
and much of South America. His gardens and mosaics have appeared in
numerous magazines and the New York Times.
