Succulent Gardens

Plants as Art & Architecture

Friday September 24th at 11:15 am
Ayers Hall, L.A. County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Succulents are currently the hottest trend in gardening, and with
good reason. The sculptural and architectural qualities of these
amazing plants bring style and drama into any garden, whether
used as accents or planted en masse. Horticulturist Patrick
Anderson, whose own art-filled succulent garden is well known
from being profiled in many magazine features and several books,
will discuss how these living works of art can become the stars of
any sustainable garden design.

Speaker

Patrick Anderson

A native of Southern California, Patrick spends most of his time tending his
two-acre garden in Fallbrook, where the focus is on plants from South
Africa, Australia, and other Mediterranean climates. Patrick's succulent
garden has been profiled in Pacific Horticulture, Sunset, Traditional Home,
and Fine Gardening magazines and several books, including Desert
Gardens
, Designing with Succulents, and New Garden Design. Patrick is
self-taught as a horticulturist, and his learning process has been enhanced by
many years of volunteering at the Huntington Botanical Garden and San
Diego Botanic Garden. Through a love of travel and a passion for visiting
(and photographing) gardens around the world, he has become a popular
speaker on plants, garden design, and garden history.
