Plant Driven Design
November 7th, 2008
Scott Ogden and Lauren Springer Ogden, horticulturists/garden designers from Denver/Austin, put plants first to make landscapes worthy of the name "garden." Their new book, Plant-Driven Design: Creating Gardens That Honor Plants, Place, and Spirit (Timber Press), lays out concepts and practices that empower gardeners to design and designers to plant. Santa Barbara landscape architect Susan Van Atta creates flower gardens and habitat gardens that rely on California native plants—the subject of her new book from Gibbs Smith (Spring 2009). Monterey landscape designer Bernard Trainor takes his inspiration from nature, art, music, and architecture—looking outside the garden for planting and design creativity (Pacific Horticulture, July 2008, p.40).
