California Plant Families

One of the easiest ways to identity California’s flora is to learn to recognize the primary characteristics of several of the most common plant families in California. Examples include the Poppy, Rose, Pea, Evening-primrose, Buckwheat, Heather, Mint, Snapdragon, and Sunflower families. The course, taught by Mary Carroll, who holds a Master’s degree in Botany and is a former SBBG Director of Education, will start with a review of commonly used plant terminology and will include a few outdoor walks in the Garden and more extensive indoor plant identification study. Please bring: 10x hand lens.

Cost:  Members $125.00; Non-Members $150.00
