With the Botanic Garden’s new serpentine garden as a background and resource, supplemented by fresh plant specimens from local and far-flung serpentine sites as examples, we’ll explore the literature that magnifies the California floristic province rich serpentine specialist populations and critically examine the assumptions and data behind the story. As a foundation, we’ll look at the chemistry of serpentine soils and the extraordinary geology of serpentine. Please bring a brown bag lunch.
