Tour Ruth Bancroft Garden

The Ruth Bancroft Garden is a hot spot for Bay Area gardeners looking to make an impact with water-wise plantings.  Developed by Ruth Bancroft over 30 years, it is now a public garden and welcomes visitors from throughout the region.  The “dry garden”, chronicled in the recent book, “The Bold Dry Garden,” features large-scale cacti and succulents as well as a wealth of California native trees and shrubs.  The well-stocked nursery offers a wide range of plants to experiment with in your own garden.

Our docent-led tour will explore the sophisticated plant combinations in the Dry Garden and explain the history of Ruth’s passion for succulents.  We will also have a special opportunity to visit Ruth’s private garden, which is rich in irises, roses, and other beloved garden plants.  Ruth celebrated her 108th birthday in 2016 and her legacy is this remarkable oasis in the middle of busy Walnut Creek.

We will carpool from MAGC and meet at the Garden.  Driving directions will be provided and we will help arrange carpools.  The tour includes a picnic lunch.

Cost:   $30 per person
