Winter Program: “The Artful Garden” with Shirley Alexandra Watts

Shirley Watts, garden designer from San Francisco, beautifully melds art into garden design. With a background in fine arts and nearly twenty years of working in the field, she has developed a personal style using new and salvaged materials, plantsmanship, and an ability to bring a surprising element of contemporary culture to a garden. In each project, she brings an individual exploration of people, space and site. Shirley’s inspiration touches all elements of gardens from hardscape and layout, to custom furniture and lighting designs.

In 2012, Shirley curated ‘Natural Discourse: Artists, Architects, Scientists & Poets in the Garden’ an exhibition of eleven site-specific installations at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and is currently working on a continuation of the project at the Los Angeles County Arboretum.
