Thank you for your interest in contributing to Pacific Horticulture magazine.
We welcome your ideas and pitches for content and look forward to sharing your stories. Pacific Horticulture values informed and accurate content, a curious perspective, and respect for the environment. Our contributors are knowledgeable gardeners covering real gardens, with a strong voice and/or quality photographs that engage our reader.
We’re looking for stories that explore the full breadth and experience of gardening on the West Coast and in related growing regions. We welcome brief write ups (200-300 words), as well as longer format stories (up to 2,000 words) The following ideas are perennial favorites with our readers:
- Clippings: book reviews, online resources, regional events
- Planting: new plants, old plants, favorite plants, landscape design, container compositions, garden profiles, seasonal spotlights.
- Field Notes: sustainability, climate, natural systems, resource management, pollinator support, native ecology, beneficial insects.
- The Gardener: people behind the gardens, working horticulturists, the next generation, personal perspective
Our small but dedicated editorial staff carefully crafts each issue around a theme explored throughout the pages of our quarterly magazine. Anyone wishing to pitch an idea should include a description of the story and an explanation as to how it relates to the Pacific Horticulture reader.
Email proposals to TheEditor@pacifichorticulture.org. Please note: we will acknowledge receipt of your pitch but due to the nature of our publication schedule, acceptance and possible publication may take several months, and up to a year.
