"Each of the five tours I've enjoyed has been outstanding in every respect: great leadership, charming and often small hotels, excellent cuisine, and entry into lovely private homes and garden"
"Our recent Morocco tour was well organized, a wonderful itinerary, and gave us access to private gardens and local homes that would not have been otherwise possible."

Kyoto: More than Gardens: A Pacific Horticulture Tour
Led by Allan Mandell
May 2012

Once the Imperial capitol of Japan, Kyoto is a treasure trove of traditional arts including garden-making, which flourished here. We will explore elegant stroll gardens, serene Zen temple courtyards and rustic Shinto shrines, where one encounters the quiet within. We will also visit a pottery village and enjoy a hands-on lesson with an ikebana master. Our tour dates coincide with the colorful Aoi Festival, one of the three major 'matsuri' of the year in Kyoto. This is a city that is safe, clean, and attuned to the changing seasons. Iris, azalea, and wisteria will be blooming, and maples will be opening their delicate new green foliage.
