"Each of the five tours I've enjoyed has been outstanding in every respect: great leadership, charming and often small hotels, excellent cuisine, and entry into lovely private homes and garden"
"Our recent Morocco tour was well organized, a wonderful itinerary, and gave us access to private gardens and local homes that would not have been otherwise possible."

Madagascar: A Madagascar Expedition
Escorted by Steve Gerischer, Board Member PHS, president Southern California Horticulture
October 9-26, 2012

Madagascar has one of the most diverse floras on earth, with ten endemic plant families and 12,000 species (80% unique to Madagascar). There are 1,000 species of orchids (85% endemic), more than in all of Africa. With a talented Madagascar naturalist guide, we will explore outstanding reserves in diverse habitats, including Perinet and Mantadia National Park in the eastern moist montane rainforests; Lokobe Reserve on the island of Nosy Be, some of the last rainforest in the northwest; and renowned Berenty Reserve in the south, which edges the spiny forest with bizarre woody and thorny plants reminiscent of plants in our desert southwest. We will also see a profusion of lemurs in these reserves, plus chameleons and countless birds unique to the country.
