What is Unique?

Miridae

Miridae has three branches which work together to strengthen connections between people, native plants, and wildlife. The Design-Build team offers full-service landscape design-build services to homeowners, businesses, and organizations that want to support local ecologies while also creating beautiful spaces. The Miridae Mobile Nursery is a roving truck that holds plant sales in neighborhoods and at community events. And Miridae Living Labs is a nonprofit arm that engages in STEM education and conducts research into plants in everyday landscapes.

What's the best gardening advice you ever received?
Be as hands-on as possible and don’t be afraid to move plants around as you get to know your plants and your garden!
Where do you find Inspiration?
Exploring landscapes in the area, from walking along the American River to urban hiking across the City of Sacramento to backpacking in the Sierras.
What are you most proud of?
Designing together with communities. Listening and learning as part of the design process.
What educational resources do you share?
We regularly give lectures at UC Davis and California Native Plant Society, but our favorite venue is our Miridae Mobile Nursery. The Mobile Nursery is a customized box truck that transforms into a curbside native plant shop and brings people together through plants and gardening. We host popup sales in neighborhoods and at local businesses. In addition to selling plants, we educate neighbors about the value and impact of creating habitat in the residential context.
