Genus genius Dan Heims, owner of Terra Nova Plants in Canby, Oregon, will speak about plants that bloom in the high summer, especially those from the American prairie. Dan will also share notes about companion plants for our gardens.
Since 1973, Dan Heims has been deeply involved in all facets of horticulture. He has taught horticulture courses, wholesaled exotic plants, and run his own design-and-installation landscape business. He is currently the president of Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc., a company noted for its many new introductions to horticulture. Terra Nova’s breeding programs have produced numerous international gold and silver‐medal winners, and an impressive 800 plant introductions!
Please join Dan as he shares his knowledge of plants that bloom in high summer, particularly plants from the American prairie and their companions. The list of American native plants adapted to our gardens is vast – Echinacea, Agastache, Helenium, Helianthus, Rudbeckia, Liatris, Penstemon, etc. Dan will share some of his favorites and give us a peek at the latest introductions. And, he may slip in the occasional dahlia and kniphofia to keep us on our toes, too!
